Kentucky Woman Released From Jail For Not Issuing Marriage Licenses to Homosexuals

This past June it became a right for same sex couples to become married in America but not everyone accepted and will accept that right. Kim Davis, Rowan county clerk refused to give several marriage licenses to same sex couples.

Davis comes from a line of county clerks following her mother’s footsteps who was a clerk for the county 37 years. Holding on to her strong beliefs of Christianity, Davis would not comply with the laws ordained by the US Supreme Court but instead followed her faith. Judge David L. Bunning of United States District Court decided to jail her saying, “If you give people the opportunity to choose which orders they follow, that’s what potentially causes problems.”

For five days Davis was in jail as many people opposed and supported the decision. Roger Gannam, attorney to Davis declares “[…] she’s been ordered to stay there until she’s willing to change her mind, until she’s willing to change her conscience about what belief is.”

White House press secretary, Josh Earnest states “Every public official in our democracy is subject to the rule of law.” Judge Bunning released Ms. Davis Tuesday evening from behind bars on the account of deputies willingly gave same sex licenses to those who didn’t receive in Davis’s absence.

Davis’s exit was presented with cheers from the crowd and songs “God Bless America” and “Amazing Grace.” Eyes filled with tears Davis exclaimed “I just want to give God the glory. His people have rallied, and you are a strong people. We serve a living God who knows exactly where each and every one of us is at. Just keep on pressing. Don’t let down, because he is here. He’s worthy.”

If Kim Davis decides to let “God be [her] boss” instead of the US Supreme Court she could end up back in jail.

Do you think it was fair to jail Kim Davis? If she declined to give same sex couples marriage license should she go back to jail?
